Description
Wheatfeed is the primary co-product from the milling of wheat. Following removal of the flour, the remainder comprises parts of the wheat grain which are rich in protein, oil and digestible fibre and is known as wheatfeed. Wheatfeed is usually available in both pellet and meal form. It has a pleasant cereal type aroma and is golden coloured.
Nutritional Attributes
Wheatfeed is suitable for feeding to a wide range of ruminants and monogastrics alike. It has a well balanced analysis providing a range of energy nutrients and protein. The fibre content is of particular value in pig diets. Also, it is suitable for use in equine feeds. However, a significant use for wheatfeed is in the ruminant sector, both as a straight in TMR diets and as an ingredient in compound feeds. Particularly beneficial for dairy cows is the high phosphorus level.
Storage and Handling
Recommended storage should be in sealed silos to prevent ingress of harmful contaminants and pests. If wheatfeed meal is stored ensure that the silo has the appropriate characteristics to permit acceptable flowability.
